Mowing down Pollution Lawnmower Trade-in

Developed and hosted by Supervisor Ron Roberts, the event will feature the exchange of 650 gasoline lawnmowers for new, rechargeable battery-powered, Black & Decker CM1936 mowers with 19-inch blades and 36 volt power systems.

All residents of San Diego County with proper identification and a qualifying gasoline mower are eligible for this program. The price of the new mower is $99.99, thanks to a special four-year bulk purchase agreement and funding from air pollution fines. The mowers retail for about $420.

The exchange process is simple. The event is first come, first served. Traditionally, county residents line up well before the 8 a.m. start time.

9th Annual Guacamole Bowl Cook-Off Contest

Guacamole lovers, feast your mouths on this!! Well, it’s not exactly a cook-off, but more of a whip-up. Teams will come together and use their own guacamole recipes that will be entered into a contest for the best tasting concoction. Come hungry and vote for your favorite! Century 21 Super Bowl 2012 Commercial has Donald Trump, Deion Sanders and Apolo Ohno

The Century 21 Super Bowl Ad will be the first for the real estate company. We already reported that the Century 21 commercial for the Super Bowl will have the theme that Century 21 Agents are Smarter. Bolder. Faster. Century 21 did not reveal anything about the story yet, but the NY Times reports that the Century 21 Super Bowl 2012 Ad will have Donald J. Trump in it.

This is a great choice as Donald Trump is an real estate icon and a great showman. The self-made billionaire is also again hosting the TV Show The Celebrity Apprentice on NBC. The new season premieres on February 19. I guess that played a role in Drump accepting to appear in the Century 21 Super Bowl Ad. Read more of this post

40th Annual SD Bay Parade of Lights: Back to the Future

This year’s theme for the 40th Annual San Diego Parade of Lights is “Back to the Future” and will be held on:

Sunday, December 11th and Sunday, December 18 from 5:30PM until 9:00PM

Approximate Times at Locations Around the Bay

The parade takes approximately one hour to one and a half hours to pass any given point along the parade route. The approximate arrival time of the parade at various locations are:

  • Shelter Island (start of parade) – 5:30pm
  • Harbor Island – 6pm
  • The Embarcadero – 6:30pm
  • Seaport Village – 7pm
  • Ferry Landing on Coronado – 7:30pm

Balboa Park December Nights

Balboa Park December Nights, the nation’s premier holiday festival, will take place for the 34th consecutive year on Friday, Dec. 2, 5-10pm, and Saturday, Dec. 3, noon-10pm. As always, the event brings families and friends together to spread holiday joy, learn more about the cultural value of Balboa Park and kick-off the “most wonderful time of the year.”

Participating Balboa Park museums open their doors free of charge from 5-9 pm both evenings and more than 300,000 visitors are expected to experience the joy of San Diego’s largest free community festival. Those who attend will participate in a truly multicultural experience, enjoying food, music and entertainment from around the world.

Revelers can watch top-notch musical and dance performances, enjoy delicious and diverse food choices and help spread a heavy dose of holiday cheer. Some of the more well-known traditions include food from around the globe at the International Christmas Festival at the House of Pacific Relations Cottages; the annual Santa Lucia Procession at the Plaza de California; unique gift shopping at the museum stores and with the artisans of Spanish Village; and musical and dance presentations from the San Diego Junior Theatre, San Diego Civic Youth Ballet, Del Cerro Baptist’s Christmas Story Tree, and more.

With more than 300,000 people attending December Nights and extremely limited parking at Balboa Park, we encourage visitors to use the FREE off-site shuttles or take public transportation.

FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE

  1. PETCO Park Shuttle at Tailgate Park at Imperial Ave. and 13th St.: Parking is only $3.00/vehicle and there are more than 2,000 parking spaces in this area. Shuttle takes less than 10 minutes and drops off at 6th and Laurel Streets.
  2. County Administration Building North Lot at 1600 Pacific Highway (corner of Grape St.): Parking is free in the North Lot.
  3. City College Lots between 16th and “B” Street: Parking is free.

The December Nights Shuttle runs on Friday from 4:30-11pm and on Saturday from noon until 11:00pm in all locations. The last shuttle leaves all sites at 8:45 pm and the last shuttle from the park is at 10:45pm.

The America’s cup starts tomorrow!

San Diego, Chula Vista, National City, Coronado and Imperial Beach – are you ready to show your hometown spirit?

The America’s Cup World Series sailing races kick off on San Diego Bay with the Port Cities Challenge on Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13. Six races – three each on Saturday and Sunday – will pair a racing team with one of the five Port District cities in a competition for bragging rights.

Officials from the winning city will present the winning team a trophy after the races conclude on Sunday.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier, at 1000 N. Harbor Drive (map), which also serves as the headquarters for the America’s Cup World Series. The America’s Cup Village, featuring food, merchandise, exhibits and entertainment, will be housed on North Harbor Drive, between Broadway and Navy Piers.
